Frequently Asked Questions

A hair transplant is not a harmless gesture. It must be performed by a trained medical team with extensive experience in this technique. A medical consultation is systematically held before a hair transplant is performed.
However, certain questions are not always discussed during this initial appointment.

This is the purpose of this "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ).

What is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is a minor surgical procedure to move hair follicles from areas of high density to areas of lower density. It is essentially a redistribution of hair in order to densify thinning areas of the scalp. The results of a hair transplant are usually permanent. Since a good graft result is always composed of grafted hair and pre-existing hair, it is always important to ensure that hair loss already present before surgery is effectively controlled. Fortunately, we now have a host of effective hair loss options available to us.

Is hair transplantation painful?
Performed under local anesthesia, the hair transplant procedure is usually not very painful. Although the patient may experience some minor discomfort, our surgical and post-operative protocol is designed to ensure the utmost comfort for our patients during and after the procedure.

We provide our patients with all the necessary instructions and medications to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
Is the hair transplant performed under general anaesthesia?

The hair transplant is performed under local anaesthesia. Since the transplant is a minor surgery, general anaesthesia is not necessary. Local anaesthesia promotes better recovery, greatly reduces the risks and complications and also reduces the costs of the procedure.

S

erious complications are extremely rare.

How long does a hair transplant take?

Depending on the level of grafting required, a transplant usually lasts between 3 to 5 hours. You will be conscious and alert throughout the procedure.
Our professional and dedicated staff will ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

I have frizzy, curly hair, can I benefit from a hair transplant?

The hair and scalp of people with curly or frizzy hair have structural, anatomical and physiological peculiarities. Generally, the structure of the graft itself is helical and spiral and the roots are curved.

As a result, until ARTAS obtained marketing authorizations from the French health authorities, these profiles with atypical hair were condemned to the FUT or Strip (with scar) method, FUE being impossible on their hair. The ARTAS robot assisted by its "scanner" technology allows a precise mapping of the bulbs and thus a FUE sampling without scars.

The transection rate remains quite suitable, ranging between 3 and 5%.

Can the grafted hair fall out?

Grafted hair is hair that grows and falls out like any normal hair. However, since they come from the crown (back and sides of the head), an area in which we find hair that is resistant to the androgen hormones responsible for hair loss, this hair does not weaken over time. Even after surgery, the hair from the crown will be moved to the thinning areas and will preserve this genetic quality.

After a transplant, the concern should never be about the transplanted hair, but rather about the hair that was already present BEFORE the transplant.

The latter are NOT safe from falling out. This is why our consultants will prepare a long-term maintenance strategy for you that will protect your investment by ensuring the durability of your entire hair. Rest assured, we have simple and effective methods that allow us to maintain your hair in all its glory.

What care should be taken following a hair transplant?

For a period of 10 days, patients will have to follow our post-operative protocol. Among other things, the patient will have to soak twice a day in the bathtub to accelerate the healing process and sleep in a semi-seated position 3 to 4 days after the transplant to avoid excessive swelling.

Post-graft care aims to ensure recovery and a return to your normal habits as quickly as possible.

Can I go about my daily activities after a transplant session?

You will be able to carry out most of your daily tasks. However, you should avoid bending forward and avoid strenuous physical exertion. The transplant also leaves some visible marks for a few days.

It is up to you to decide if you prefer the peace and quiet of your home or if you do not mind showing up in public!

Can I expose myself to the sun after a transplant?

Your scalp will not be more fragile after the transplant. However, as always, you should protect your head from sunburn.

Always be sure to protect your skin from excessive exposure to UV rays.

How long does hair regrowth begin after the transplant?

The grafted hair will begin to grow from the 2nd or 3rd months after the transplant. Therefore, you will not get your result as soon as the procedure is completed.

The result of a hair transplant is considered final 18 months after the procedure. However, thanks to new technologies in the treatment of baldness, options such as hair mesotherapy or new products available, our patients benefit from results that continue to improve even several years after their transplants.

Is there an age limit for a hair transplant?

Age is not a factor. Only physical condition and overall health are considered in the selection of our patients. If we judge that hair transplant is not safe in your case, we will not proceed with the procedure.

However, your age will not be taken into account in our decision. Your safety is our only concern.
